Are you feeling guilty or hard on yourself for not wanting to train or lacking the energy to train hard lately?
Well, sit down for some refreshing news,
You need to stop worrying yourself because you need to understand that this is a lifelong activity you will be doing and if you expect to be pushing new limits every session then you will quickly come to burnout, plateau, build up incredible fatigue, physically and mentally while talking down upon yourself for being a failure because you couldn't maintain a certain volume or PR push.
All contributing you to being discouraged by walking into the gym.
Not every session of training needs to be made about chasing PR's or adding in more volume.
You'll soon find that it's impossible unless you are locked in like an elite athlete that centers their life around the perfect program while managing nutrition, sleep, training and their bills through their training sessions - Even then it's unlikely you will always progress forever in 1 single area.
As training is a combination of things, muscles groups, nutrition, and recovery creating strength and hypertrophy.
Most likely though you have a life that requires you to buy, pick-up, and cook your own food and spending countless hours at work stressing about other people's problems.
This is why you need The Season of Maintenance, sounds like a movie eh?
How is it done?
Swap training to failure to training to 1-3 RIR
Swap 20 sets a week to 10 sets a week
Swap training 5-6 days a week to 3-4 days a week
Swap your hate for training for your love for training
And watch your strength stay relative, your stress levels drop, your enjoyment for being fit, strong, and capable come back to life
Once you've done that you will realize you can maintain all that you have worked for while still making progress until the next big push.
And you'll see you can do it forever.
