I’ve come across a new concept on how things that are easy to do are just as easy to not do and how avoiding doing something because it's easy could be as detrimental as doing something just because it's easy
What the hell does this mean?
An example would be avoiding doing something because it's easy - like a few extra steps, counting some calories, doing that proper warm-up, eating that cookie... Whoops that was oddly just as easy to do as count breakfast calories. Basically, all those easy things that we can't be bothered to do
It literally applies to everything but here are a few concepts regarding fitness and health
What’s easy to do and easy not to do with fitness and being healthy?
One that’s simple to do is hitting 8,000 steps per day, I know this sounds hard but all you have to do is put 1 foot in front of the other for any amount of time (and it's just as easy not to do because walking is actually not that hard and burns little energy but has a immense impact on mental health, physical health, and fat loss if done consistently)
There is a direct link between people who are fitter, healthier, and happier when doing more steps than not per day.
8,000 is important because it is a guide to see just how active you are throughout your day and if you aren't hitting the baseline then it's the easiest one to improve to see results. We are humans with 2 feet and a heartbeat, and they really do want to be worked together.
So you’re drinking less than 1.2L of water a day? Yes more would be good but you’d be surprised to hear a lot of people are barely drinking 1.2L
This one is easy! All you need to do is put some water in a cup and put it in your mouth - It’s as simple to do as it is to not do
And these are the benefits you’ll get out of it
Lubricates your joints and ligaments
Aids workout performance and reduces injury risk
Aids in blood circulation to transport nutrients and oxygen to the muscles
Prevents headaches and mental fatigue
Helps improve sleep quality
Stabilizes your body temperature
Removes toxins from your body
Get some sunshine - You can even be on your phone doing the doomscrolling while you do it, that’s how simple it is you don’t even need to be present, and it helps if you're not covered up head to toe
Ask anyone who gets in the sun each day one thing they couldn’t live without - I bet getting into the sun is going to be high on their list of things that keep their stress low and mind happy.
The half-naked guy laying on the concrete outside the gym is just me trying to remind myself I’m human, and because the beach is too far away.
Getting to sleep at a reasonable time
Did you know you can do this one while laying on your back with your eyes closed? So simple yet often neglected.
We all can tell the difference between someone who's well slept well versus someone who's not and it can be the start of a cycle that exacerbates every other feeling and action.
It can affect which foods you pick (usually not the healthy kind) which effects how you deal with stress, which effects how irritable and moody you get, which effects how you deal with people and problems in social situations, which can affect if you will exercise today or not.
Do this often enough you won’t even remember what feeling good feels like or what you’re actually supposed to feel like
in terms of weight loss, this would be
Counting calories
One of the easiest things to do yet people don’t do it.
How easy?
It’ll take you 30-60s 2-3x a day and It’ll make you smarter and more conscious of your actions.
This might feel like something you don’t want to do but all your doing is living subconsciously and putting your head in the sand, especially if what you are doing is not getting you what you want.
